Greek-French Olympic cooperation between Ancient Olympia and Antibes

Cultural exchanges and parallel activities in view of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris were included in the agenda of the recent visit of a delegation of the Municipality of Ancient Olympia to the sister city of Antibes (Antipolis) in France.

The delegation consisted of the Mayor of Ancient Olympia, Mr. George Georgiopoulos, the Deputy Mayors and Roy Antonopoulou, υπεύθυνη Διεθνών Σχέσεων & Ολυμπιακών θεμάτων και Panagiotis Flessas, in charge of Technical Services, the Municipal Councillor of the minor minority, Mr. Andreas Benetsis and the Municipal Employee Mrs. Eleni Prinou. The representatives of the Municipality of Ancient Olympia were cordially received by the Mayor of Antibes and former Minister Mr. Jean Leonetti and the Municipal Authority of the French city.

On the first day of the visit, a meeting was held at the City Hall of Antibes, with the participation of the two Mayors and the members of the mission, in the presence of the French Member of Parliament, Mr. Eric Pauget, of the Deputy Mayors of Finance Alexia Missana and Culture – Tourism etc. Audouin Rambaud as well as the Director of the Tourist Office Mrs. Michele Bosq and the partner of the Municipality, a Greek expatriate Mr. Alkis Volioti, who has played a leading role in the twinning of the two cities.

In the meeting laid the foundations of a close cooperation that will begin in 2023 and culminate in 2024, focusing on the Olympic Games. The full content of the cooperation will be shaped in the near future and will include important cultural exchanges between the two cities.
