The Olympic Flame will be born again in the Sacred Land of Ancient Olympia on April 16, 2024, to begin her journey to the French capital, for the Olympic Games "Paris 2024".
The Lighting Ceremony will begin at 11.30, in the presence of H.E. the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and with free admission for the public.
The Olympic Flame will be born in the hands of the High Priestess Mary Mina while the Choreography has been inspired and directed by the Choreographer Artemis Ignatiou, music composed Dimitris Papadimitriou and will be executed by 35 priestesses and 15 kouros. The costumes of the Chorus contributors have been created by the internationally renowned designer Mary Katrantzou.
The Olympic Anthem will be performed by the top Mezzo – Soprano Joyce DiDonato and Master of Ceremonies will be the accomplished journalist Nikos Aliagas.
The Olympic Flame will be received from the hands of High Priestess Mary Mina, the Olympic gold medalist Stefanos Duskos to start the Torch Relay on Greek soil that will last 11 days, until April 26.
The Olympic Flame Lighting Ceremony organized by the Hellenic Olympic Committee will be attended by International Olympic Committee President Dr. Thomas Bach, the President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee Tony Estanguet , the French Minister for Sport Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, the Greek State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of France Chrysoula Zacharopoulou and the mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo who will be welcomed by the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, President of the European Olympic Committees and Member of the IOC Spyros Capralos.
Responsible for the Olympic Flame Ceremony is the President of the Olympic Torch Relay Committee Thanasis Vassiliadis and Master of Ceremonies Yiannis Papadimitriou.
