In Crete, the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committees

Crete will be at the center of the global Olympic and Sports movement from 23 to 25 October, as Heraklion will eventually host the 25th General Assembly of the International Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC)! The 206 National Olympic Committees of the world, the President of the IOC, Thomas Bach and representatives of the International Federations of Olympic Sports, will participate, discuss and take important decisions on the future of world sport.

The decision to hold the Anoc General Assembly in Greece, 17 years after 2004, was taken by the Board of Directors of the International Association of National Olympic Committees, during the Olympic Games in Tokyo, following a proposal submitted jointly by the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Deputy Ministry of Sports.

The selection of Heraklion, Crete - and specifically in Hersonissos - was finalized after a visit to the island of the Secretary General of ANOC and member of the IOC, Gunilla Lindberg, who was accompanied by the President of the EGM and the European Olympic Committees, as well as a member of the IOC, Spyros Capralos. Gunilla Lindberg and other ANOC executives were welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, who guided her to the proposed venues and presented her with the advantages that the organization of the General Assembly will have on such a hospitable and beautiful island. The Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection, Lefteris Economou, was also present on the issues of his competence.

The representative of the International Union of National Olympic Committees was thrilled by her stay, by what she saw and heard and accepted the proposal of Mr. Avgenakis and Mr. Capralos.

The responsibility for the organization of the General Assembly of the International Union of National Olympic Committees, where more than 700 participants are estimated, who bear their travel and accommodation expenses, lies with the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the Deputy Ministry of Sports.
Regarding the choice of Heraklion as the center of Olympism next October, the Deputy Minister of Sports, Lefteris Avgenakis, stressed: "Our country and Crete more specifically, with an absolutely extroverted philosophy, politics and targeting, is constantly regaining – again – the position it deserves in the international scene and in the global forums. As the "mother" of Olympism, Greece, we will welcome next October the Olympic family from every corner of the earth and will contribute to the further promotion and promotion of the Values of the Olympic movement. It is something that is being done for the first time since 2004 and I am proud and very moved. Our wish is that these people, the "ambassadors" of world sports, keep the best image of Crete and our country, to feel "safe" in these difficult times and to become "ambassadors" of Greece in their countries.

Regarding the general assembly of the International Union of National Olympic Committees in Crete, the President of the NAIS, Spyros Capralos, noted: "It is with great pleasure that we will organize the General Assembly of ANOC in hospitable Crete and thus give us the opportunity to present to the whole world the beauties of the island.
