With great pleasure, the Hellenic Sports Federation of the Deaf announces the undertaking of the 6th World Deaf Men & Women Basketball Championship 2023, which will take place in Heraklion, Crete. The meeting of the DIBF (Deaf International Basketball Federation) regarding the voting of the undertaking sport event of WDBC 2023 has just ended. The two most candidates countries were Greece for Heraklion, Crete and Turkey for Ankara. The presentation regarding candidate of Greece was attended by the President of Hellenic Sports Federation of the Deaf Mr. Iosif Stavrakakis and by Mr. Iakovos Haroulakis, President of the Organizing Committee for the 6th World Deaf Basketball Championship of 2023. Both spoke about the reasons why the board of DIBF should be vote for Heraklion, Crete to be host of championships.
In an exceptional climate, Greece got the answer it was asking for. Greece is the host country of this great sporting event. The Hellenic Sports Federation of the Deaf would like to thank: the board of of DIBF for the vote of confidence that makes Greece the host country of the 6th World Deaf Basketball Championship and especially the general secretary and inspector of sports facilities Mr. Jurgen Endress who together made the first autopsy trip to Heraklion in Crete. Also, the Minister of Sports Mr. Lefteris Avgenakis, the Region of Crete and especially Mr. Stavros Arnaoutakis and the Mandated Sports Advisor of Crete Mr. Syrigonakis Nikos. The Mayor of Heraklion Mr. Vassilis Lambrinos as well as the Deputy Mayor of Sports Mr. Costas Vardavas for their full support and encouragement in every step of HSFD. Also, Mr. Babis Markakis President of EKASK (basketball clubs union) and member of the EOK (Hellenic Basketball Federation) , Mr. Machairianakis Michalis President of Referees of Crete, Mr. Tsagronis Panagiotis Secretary General of the Hellenic Basketball Federation. Warm thanks from the bottom of our heart, where during our short trip to Heraklion you were by our side, showing the will and support to undertake this great sporting event.
