The evaluation of the educational programme ' Transforma ' of Rio 2016

One of the most important missions of the Olympic and Paralympic Games is to promote the education of new generations through the practice of sport and its values. The Rio 2016 education programme,Transforma, met this challenge by taking the Games to more than 16,000 schools across Brazil, reaching about eight million students directly and indirectly.

Between 2013 and 2016, Transforma offered courses, activities and unique experiences for students and teachers. The programme expanded the schools’ boundaries and organised sporting festivals that were open to local communities, allowing people of all ages to experience new Olympic and Paralympic sports. During the Paralympic Games, Transforma took 50,000 state school students from all of Rio de Janeiro's municipalities to watch the competitions, helping create a vibrant family atmosphere in the arenas, while providing the youngsters with an experience that challenged stereotypes about people with an impairment and promoted a more inclusive way of thinking.
