Accessibility to the Municipal Library of Katerini, as well as to all points of interest (e.g. first floor event hall), related to cultural activities, is ensured by the installation of an elevator at the Cultural Center of the Municipality. The elevator, which meets the highest quality and safety standards, is an important donation to the Municipality of Katerini by Mr. Apostolos Mastoridis, our compatriot expatriate from the U.S.A., in memory of his father Philippos. Its placement comes to satisfy a timeless request, as well as to facilitate the access of people with disabilities, elderly fellow citizens with mobility problems, moms with strollers, etc. of vulnerable groups of the population to the Cultural Center. "I also publicly express the grateful thanks of all citizens for this moving, as well as substantial donation of Mr. Mastoridis, which has as a driving force and proves the inexhaustible love that our expatriates, the expatriate Greeks, have towards their homeland", he stressed yesterday afternoon, during a simple event of delivery - receipt of the project, The Mayor of Katerini, Kostas Koukodimos, pointing out: "This project, which is directly related to Culture, Accessibility and Disability, can support actions for social inclusion and integration of people with disabilities and vulnerable population groups."
Εμφανώς συγκινημένος ο δωρητής και οι οικείοι του αναφέρθηκαν στη διαδρομή της οικογένειας από την Ελλάδα στις Η.Π.Α. και στην ανάγκη που αισθάνθηκαν να προβούν στην συγκεκριμένη δωρεά ως ένδειξη αγάπης, προσφοράς και αλληλεγγύης προς την ιδιαίτερη πατρίδα τους. Παρόντες στην εκδήλωση ήταν επίσης o πρόεδρος του Οργανισμού Πολιτισμού (ΟΠΠΑΠ) Γιάννης Νταντάμης, ο Αντιδήμαρχος Καθαριότητας Γιώργος Κυριακίδης, η πρόεδρος των Δημοτικών Πάρκινγκ Ασημίνα Πούλιου, μέλη της οικογένειας του δωρητή, ενώ αγιασμό τέλεσαν ιερείς της Ιεράς Μητροπόλεως Κίτρους, Κατερίνης & Πλαταμώνος.
