On Thursday 16 May 2024 at 18:00, the Benaki Museum will present a unique guided tour with sign language interpretation by HandsUp in the renewed rooms on the third floor of the Benaki Museum of Greek Culture on Koumbari Street. Rooms 33-36 present the history of modern Greece covering the period from the War of Independence to the Greco-Italian War and the occupation by the Axis powers. The creation of the Greek state, the government of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the reign of King Otto and the first Constitution, the reign of George I, the Balkan Wars and the era of Eleftherios Venizelos, the Asia Minor Catastrophe, the interwar period and the Epic of 1940-1941 come alive through relics, personal items, court costumes and works of art.
