New success for the Greek Paralympic Taekwondo


Another medal, this time silver, was won at the European Para Taekwondo Championships, held in Belgrade, by the Greek delegation.
Two podiums for the two Greek athletes of EAOM-Disabled, as after the gold medal, won by Christina Gentzou, in the U44 category in – 65kg, Eleni Papastamatopoulou in the same U44 category in + 65kg, she also climbed to the second step of the podium.
Papastamatopoulou, after winning the gold medal at the European Qualification Tournament and qualifying for the Paralympic Games in Paris, won another medal in a major event, although she competed with a sprained ankle. She initially beat Jelena Rasic of host Serbia 13-11 and in the semi-final she easily prevailed 11-5 against Spain's Dalla Moreno, who shared the bronze medal with Moroccan Raja Akermas.
In the final, having an injury problem, against the "silver" Paralympic champion (+58kg in Tokyo) Amy Trousdale, from Great Britain, the Greek champion lost the gold in the details and finally took the 2nd place and the silver medal.
Along with the two "golden" champions in the Serbian capital were coach Vasilis Zikos and trainer Evangelia Vangeloglou.
