The conference on "The Olympic Games from yesterday to today" was completed in Ancient Olympia

Μια ενδιαφέρουσα ημερίδα με θέμα «Οι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες από το χθες στο σήμερα» πραγματοποιήθηκε την Κυριακή 8 Ιανουαρίου 2023 από τον Οργανισμό Sports & Cultural Club σε συνεργασία με τον Δήμο Αρχαίας Ολυμπίας.

The workshop took place in the auditorium of the City Hall of Ancient Olympia and was part of the event. as part of the Erasmus+ Training Course, with speakers Nikos Tsonis, Journalist, former Director of the Sports Department of ERT and Antonis Natsio, Author for the Olympics, Physical Education Teacher.

The Mayor of Ancient Olympia, Mr. George Georgiopoulos, in his greeting, referred to the special importance for the place of its emergence as a hotbed of Education and Culture, emphasizing that in this direction there have been initiatives of the Municipal Authority, both with the Memorandum of Cooperation for a Postgraduate Department with the Universities of Patras and Nicosia, as well as with the Institute for the Training of Sports Executives claimed by the Municipality and implemented by the Greek Government. He emphasized that in antiquity Sports was integrated into Education, observing that this is exactly how it should be done in modern times.

In his speech, Mr. Natsios referred to how the experience and history of the Olympic Games can become a tool of Pedagogy and all this can be transferred to young people, transformed into life values and children can walk with these values. He noted that "for many different reasons all this has not yet spread in our society, stressing that if something like this is achieved through modern education, the climate, the current regime of violence in sports, can be overthrown and we can return to normality, beauty and this is what our youth really have to give today"

Similarly, Mr. Tsonis transferred his experience from the relationship of the Olympic Games with television. He referred specifically to how technology has evolved and how it affects the organization of Olympic Games, from 1936 (Berlin) with only three cameras to the present day with hundreds of cameras and thousands of staff. He also highlighted the financial support provided to sport by television coverage of the games, citing the most recent case of the Tokyo Olympics where revenues from television coverage helped sports federations.

The event was coordinated by Mrs. Eleni Tzani, SEE F.A. PEKES Peloponnese. The event was attended by, among others, the Deputy Mayor of Education, Olympic Affairs and International Relations Mrs. Roy Antonopoulou, the Municipal Councillor Haris Spiliopoulos, the President and the Vice-President of the Trade Association, Mr. Nikos Kariotis και Epaminondas Galanis respectively, the President of the World Park of Olympians, Mr. Dimitris Konstantinou, as well as young people from different countries participating in the programme.
