The International Olympic Academy, the Hellenic Olympic Committee and Costa Navarino presented, in an online event, the world's first International Olympic Academy Golf Course. The name of the new golf course, located in Navarino Hills on the Costa Navarino, symbolizes the sport's relationship with Olympia, as it is the closest golf facility to the birthplace of the Olympic Games, Ancient Olympia. The announcement - as part of International Olympic Day - comes at a pivotal moment for golf's growing awareness. His reintegration into the 2016 Rio Olympics was an important milestone in the sport's history and is expected to garner interest again this year in Tokyo.
The new cooperation between the I.O.A. and Costa Navarino, with the significant contribution of the E.O.E., aims to further highlight the principles and values of Olympicism, as well as to promote Olympic education through a series of activities both in Costa Navarino and at the I.O.A. facilities in Ancient Olympia, while playing an important role in promoting golf to an ever-growing global audience. The name of the new International Olympic Academy Golf Course will reflect the common values of the I.O.A., the E.O.E. and Costa Navarino for development, education, sustainability and personal well-being. It is one of two 18-hole stadiums at Navarino Hills designed by two-time Masters winner José María Olazábal and will open in early 2022.
