Three new European Paralympic medals for Greek swimmers

The most productive day in terms of medals was yesterday for Greek swimming at the European Championships hosted in Madeira, Portugal. Two gold medals and one silver were the record of Greek colours during the 4th day, with Demosthenes Michalentzakis winning the gold medal in the 100m. free S8, Alexandra Stamatopoulou reaching the top of 50m. S4, for the second event in a row and Aristides Makrodimitris winning the silver medal in the 200m. free S2, one day after bronze in the 100m. Backstroke.

European champion for the second time in less than 24 hours, Demosthenis Michalentzakis was crowned. The "gold" Paralympia of Rio, originating from Alexandroupolis, after last night's gold in the 100m. butterfly, today conquered the top and in the 100m. free S8, with a performance of 58.52.

Michalentzakis, greek swimming's great hope of winning a medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, was pushed into the second 50 by Russian Andrei Nikolaev, but for six tenths of a second, he managed to win the gold medal and for the second time in a few hours, to hear our national anthem at the Madrid swimming pool.

As in 2018 in Ireland, so today, in Portugal, Alexandra Stamatopoulou stole the show in the 50m. S4, winning the gold medal again.
The Greek champion covered the distance in 54.35 and doubled her European firsts in the event, the final of which was one of the most exciting of the afternoon program, since six female athletes claimed victory until the end.

As for Aristides Makrodimitris, although he initially finished third in the 200m final. free S2, finally found with the silver medal hung on the chest, after the cancellation of russian Danilenko. This is the second medal for the Greek trish Paralympion winner in the event of Madeira, after the bronze he took yesterday in the 100m. of the same category. Macron's performance in the final was 4:44.51.

Also from a Greek point of view, Gerasimos Lignos was ranked 8th in the final of the 100m. S13, while Efthymia Goulis had the 10th performance of the qualifiers in the 100m. free S9.
