The National Confederation of Persons with Disabilities (ESAA) was visited by the Deputy Minister of Education Angelos Syrigos. There, he met with a delegation of the ESAME and in particular with its President Ioannis Vardakastanis, the Treasurer Mr K. Gargalis and the member of the EG Mr. V. Koutsianos. The meeting discussed the issues faced by people with disabilities and chronic conditions with regard to access to higher education.
Mr Vardakastanis pointed out that exclusion and discrimination against people with disabilities and chronic diseases is unfortunately also produced and replicated in higher education, as long as there is no universal access to it for people with disabilities and chronic diseases. It is good that the National Disability Action Plan provides for higher education for people with disabilities and chronic conditions, as for the disability movement it is a key priority to develop and implement a holistic plan for the integration of students with disabilities and chronic diseases into higher and postgraduate education.
