Grief was spread by the news of the death of former athlete and leading player of Greek sport Vasilis Sevastis at the age of 72. The former President and Secretary General of SEGAS served as a member of the Plenary Assembly of the EEE from 2001 to 2012 and served with passion and dedication the Greek Olympicism and sport.
Vassilis Sevastis was born on May 27, 1949 and as an athlete stood out in the 10th event. He was a physical education teacher, athletics coach and of course a sports agent in various posts. He grew up in the Dodecanese and specifically in Rhodes and Kalymnos and from a young age he was involved in sports. His greatest distinctions were achieved as an athlete of Panionios. In 1971 he was awarded "gold" at the Mediterranean Games in Izmir, while a year later he won the bronze medal at the Balkan Games in the same city. In 1969 he represented our country at the European Open Championship where he ranked 19th with 6,120 points. During his career he twice improved the national record in the 10th sport with 7,043 b. in 1970 and 7,312 in 1972. During the period 1980-1983 he was director of the national stadium of Patras, athletics coach of the clubs Olympiada, EA Patras as well as technical advisor of the Local Committee of SEGAS North Peloponnese between 1983 and 1984.
From 1984 to 1993 he was Technical Advisor for the Development of SEGAS and National Coach.
He took over the leadership of the federation in 1997 and managed to regenerate it at the racing and administrative level. During his tenure as president and since 2012 after the post of secretary general he has offered a lot to Greek sport.
