The General Assembly of the European Olympic Academies

The online works of the 3rd annual General Assembly of the European Olympic Academies were completed successfully from 29th to 30th January with the participation of 28 delegates from National Olympic Academies in Europe as well as 28 observers and guests from various Olympic institutions. The IOA’s Development Projects Consultant and Member of the IOC Culture and Olympic Heritage Commission, Prof. Dionyssis Gangas, has been nominated and elected by the NOAs delegates for the position of the Good Governance Officer, a role which will involve monitoring, advising, educating and raising awareness on values, ethics, integrity and transparency within the organization. Prof. Gangas has extended his gratitude for his election and affirmed that he will make any effort to respond to such expectations.

Throughout the works, apart from other issues of the Agenda discussed, 4 new NOAs became members of the Association (Armenia, Belarus, Belgium and the Netherlands) and short presentations on the current activities and projects on the part of the NOAs also took place. Furthermore, the coordinators of the Commissions formed during the 2nd GA in Nicosia (Communication, Development and Cooperation, Olympic Education and Olympic Heritage) had the opportunity to present their excellent work during 2020, their steps and strategic plan for the future of the EOA. The next General Assembly is planned to be held in Sochi, in October 2021 and in 2022, it will be hosted by the IOA at the renovated premises in Ancient Olympia.
