Cyprus Olympic Committee meetings with Olympic team champions

In the context of the meetings established between the Cyprus Olympic Committee and the athletes who make up the Olympic Team "Tokyo 2020", a delegation of the CONTE held on Thursday 28 January, an online meeting with the athletes Pavlos Kontidis and Apostolos Parellis. The two meetings were attended by the CONTE, President George Chrysostomou, Vice-President Giotis Ioannidis, Treasurer Alexandros Chrysostomou and staff, The Officers Giorgos Panagidis and Nikos Sofiopoulos as well as the Presidents of the Sports Federations of the two athletes Yannos Fotiou (Sailing) and Peric Markaris (Athletics) respectively, and Mr. Panagiotis Kontidis who will be in Tokyo as a member of the Team

YC President Giorgos Chrysostomou noted that the main objective of the YC team is to help athletes prepare as well as their participation in the games as best as possible, taking into account the specificities of each participation individually. Addressing the athletes, he said: "We understand the difficulties, we will approach with understanding the demands of our athletes, and we are happy and happy to be there for you in trying to achieve your goals."

For their part, the two athletes thanked the MET for the creation of the team, noting that it is a meeting that takes place for the first time with this composition and at such a time, and expressed confidence that it will help their whole effort. The athletes have informed about their preparation schedule until next summer and the actions that need to be taken to ensure that it is done in the best possible way. They were also informed by the COE of the current data in relation to their participation and the IOC guidelines, of the measures to be taken before and during the Covid-19 games. Ioc President Thomas Bach's assurance about the games was also conveyed to the athletes, as he conveyed it in a recent teleconference with the Presidents of all Olympic Committees. Similar meetings were preceded by sailors Marilena Makri (21/01), and Andreas Kariou (25/01), followed in a short time by meetings with the other athletes who have already secured qualification for the Games.
