Cypriot Olympian Pavlos Contides nominated for the IOC Athletes Commission

Pavlos Kontidis is the official candidate for election to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes Committee. On Thursday, 5 December 2019, on the sidelines of the third and last day of the meeting of the IOC Executive Board in Lausanne, thirty nominations of athletes, who will claim the four available positions of the Commission, were approved in Elections to be held in Tokyo, Japan in the summer of 2020, alongside the Olympic Games. All 11,091 athletes participating in the 2020 Olympic Games have the right to vote. Ballot boxes will be staged during the games in the Olympic Village.

The nomination of Pavlos Konides was proposed and supported by the Cyprus Olympic Committee (KOE) last September. Subsequently, in November the IOC submitted all potential candidates in the interview process and those meeting the criteria were approved as candidates by the IOC Executive Committee, which met at the new Olympic Palace in Lausanne under the chairmanship of Dr . Thomas Bach.
