Renewal of Capralos' term as an IOC member proposed by the Executive Committee of the Olympic Committee

The renewal of the mandate of HOC President Spyros Capralos as a member of the International Olympic Committee in Greece was decided by the IOC Executive Board at its last meeting in Lausanne.

The proposal to extend Capralos' mandate will be put to a vote at the 144th Session of the International Olympic Committee to be held in Greece on March 18-21, 2025 and is expected to be voted in favor by all members.

Capralos' term was due to end at the end of 2025, but the IOC Executive Council, taking into account his contribution to the Olympic and global sports movement, as well as his key interventions on important issues concerning both the Olympic Committees and athletes, proposes the renewal of his mandate from January 1, 2026 until the end of 2029.

Capralos, who has been an independent member of the IOC since 2019, said: "I am really happy about the Executive Board's decision to propose extending my mandate as a member of the International Olympic Committee. It is a reward for the efforts I have made to spread the Olympic values and develop the Olympic movement worldwide. At the same time, this honor reflects on Greek sports and our athletes, as our country will continue to have a strong voice and power in the decision-making centers of the Olympic family. The renewal of my mandate equips me with even greater strength to continue working for the benefit of Greek athletes."
