Legendary Olympic champion Dick Fosbury passed away

Legendary Olympic track and field champion Dick Fosbury passed away at the age of 76 from a lymphoma relapse. The American high jumper, who was an Olympic gold medalist in 1968 in Mexico, is the one who changed the history of the event.

He applied a new technique by jumping with his back to the bar, as we see today the jumpers fighting. The so-called Fosbury flop was initially criticized and considered unorthodox, but when the American athlete surpassed 2.24 meters at the Olympic Games in Mexico, everyone realized the revolution he brought to the event, which changed forever. It is characteristic that only four years later at the Munich Olympics, 28 of the 40 jumpers had adopted his technique.
