International success by Giorgos Lazaridis in wheelchair tennis!

Giorgos Lazaridis had another very good week in the international tournament in Vilnius in Lithuania, winning the title in doubles and reaching the "4" in singles. Our wheelchair tennis champion participated in the ITF Futures Series international tournament, adding new successes to his credit.

He made it all the way to the semifinals, after his wins against Lithuanian Aleksandr Olechnovic 6-1, 6-1 and Ireland's Garreth Greene, No.6 on the board, 6-4, 6-2. Lazaridis, who was at No.4 on the board, then faced for the semifinals the strong Slovak Marek Gergely, No.1 on the board and No.25 in the world rankings. It was a match in which he stood very well, but in the end he was defeated 6-3, 6-4.

In the doubles, Lazaridis and his Spanish teammate, Francesc Tur, made it all the way to the title, starting at No.1 on the board. Bye they entered the quarterfinals, where they did not lose a single game (6-0, 6-0) to Norwegians Kristian Bencic and Daniel Sonesson.

In the semifinals they won the No.3 pairing on the board, Poland's Krzystof Brezyna and Szymon Nowicki 6-3, 7-5, while in a very nice final they beat the No.4 on the board, Marek Gergely and Hampus Linder-Olofsson, 7-5, 5-7, 10-6.

This was the 2nd title this year for Lazaridis, who also won the Croatia Open Umag along with Dahnon Ward. In total it was the 30th title of his career in an ITF event in doubles, while he has also won 4 in singles.
