The Cyprus Olympic Committee ( CUT), which was responsible for coordinating Cypriot participation in the upcoming Digital Regional Workshop entitled "Integrity in Sport: Tackling Manipulation in Sport", is fighting the nationwide battle against manipulation in sport. The workshop is organised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), INTERPOL and the United Nations Office on Drug Control and Crime Prevention (UNODC), with the support of the Council of Europe and FIBA. Delegations from Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Italy and Malta will participate in the workshop and will be held digitally over the weekend of 15-16 September 2020. The MET, in cooperation with the CMO, undertook the coordination in Cyprus, inviting eight sports federations to the workshop. In particular, these are the federations of athletics (KOEAS), swimming (KOEK) basketball (KOK), football (COP), volleyball (COPE), cycling (COPO), handball (COC) and tennis (OAC).
The aim of the workshop is to create a forum for the exchange of knowledge and practices to tackle manipulation in sport, mainly through cooperation with law enforcement authorities, sports organisations and sports shareholders. Speakers will come from the ILO, INTERPOL, the UN and the Council of Europe, with the main objectives of the workshop being to raise awareness of the issue, clarify the roles of national governments, increase cooperation between countries through the establishment of relevant mechanisms, establish regional and international cooperation, exchange good practices and learn the right criminal investigation procedures.
