The Law on the Accessibility of Disabled People to Buildings and Infrastructure

After several delays, the Ministry of the Environment issued the Ministerial Decision with the Technical Guidelines for the Adaptation of Existing Buildings and Infrastructures for their Accessibility to Persons with Disabilities and Disabled Persons. The ministerial decision is the result of the active cooperation of the ESAMEA with the Ministry and the Accessibility Committee, as the ESAMEA - without fail since its establishment - is represented in the Accessibility Committee of the Ministry which elaborated this ministerial decision.

The Ministerial Decision lays down in detail the Technical Guidelines for the implementation of reasonable adaptations to the buildings and their surroundings, i.e. any necessary modification of buildings with the aim of ensuring the accessibility of persons with disabilities, as defined in Articles 26 and 27 of the New Building Regulation (Law 4067/2012). The decision establishes the specifications for the drafting of the accessibility study for existing buildings, while using the "Public Services and Infrastructure Accessibility Control Methodology" (2009, Interministerial Committee of the General Secretariat for Public Administration and Electronic Governance of the Ministry of the Interior) and on the other hand the ELOT 1439:2012 standard "Organisation friendly to disabled citizens – Requirements and recommendations", products also both close cooperation of the EASMEA with the above competent bodies.
