Tokyo 2020 Joins UNFCCC's Sports for Climate Action Initiative

The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) announced it had joined the “Sports for Climate Action Initiative”, a new programme established by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The Initiative was announced at the 24th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, currently taking place in Katowice, Poland. The International Olympic Committee will provide support for its implementation, and other leading sports federations are also planning to embrace it.

The new Initiative aims to leverage the global popularity of sport to drive concrete actions that will help make a real difference in the battle against climate change, as well as help minimise the environmental footprint of sporting events.
