New President for the Olympic Committee of Sweden

Mats Årjes is the new President of the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOK). He has been elected on occasion of the NOC General Assembly held yesterday in order to replace the outgoing President Hans Vestberg, who resigned in January. The second candidate was SOK Vice President Per Palmström.

Arjes, 51, is President of the Swedish Ski Association since December 2008 and also President, Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors of ski resort SkiStar AB. Before joining SkiStar AB in 2002, Mr Arjes served as Secretary General of the Swedish Ski Association for four years. In his youth he used to alpine ski race actively, up to a national elite level, until he was forced to retire from competition due to injury. Mats Årjes becomes the seventh President of the NOC since the establishment in 1913 and will serve for a three-year mandate.
