The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee), the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and the Japan Para-Sports Association (JPC) together held ceremonies in Tokyo's Kita City to welcome the Olympic and Paralympic flags.
The welcome ceremony in Kita City took place in the Kita City Gymnasium, attracting some 2,000 enthusiastic spectators. Tomoya Nagase, special flag tour ambassador and member of the popular group TOKIO, and Shinji Negi, flag tour ambassador and captain of the Japanese Wheelchair Basketball team at the Sydney 2000 Paralympics, took the stage. Nagase handed the Olympic flag over to Kita City mayor Yosota Hanakawa, while Negi presented the Paralympic flag to Kanako Yamada, Chair of the Kita City Assembly.
