The first participation of Kosovo at the Olympics!

Following recognition by the IOC, and thus by the EOC, in 2014, as 50th European NOC, the Kosovo Olympic Committee will this year field its first ever team at an Olympic Games: Rio 2016. At a press conference, Kosovo Olympic Committee President Besim Hasani hailed this as an historic event, adding that the small team of eight athletes had worked hard and prepared with great commitment, and that “the aim is for medals”.

Led by Chef de Mission Eugen Saracini, the eight athletes who will shortly head for Rio are: judokas Majlinda Kelmendi and Nora Gjakova, track and field athletes Musa Hajdari and Viona Kryeziu, swimmers Lum Zhaveli and Drita Zeqiri , and many times national shooting champion Urata Rama, who represented her country at the inaugural Baku 2015 European Games in Azerbaijan. Commenting her nomination to Rio, Rama said: "Since it is the first time in my career, it is a huge challenge, but I believe that any success of mine would be an honour for my country.”
