Rio 2016 has opened a giant megastore selling official products for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in one of the city's most iconic locations: Copcabana beach. Offering more than 3,000 different products – from cuddly dolls of the Games mascots to rucksacks, beach towels and Rio 2016-branded Havaianas flip-flops – the megastore will be open from 10am to 10pm every day from now until 30 September.
The store was opened to the media on 30 June, with Brazilian Paralympic sprint star Terezinha Guilhermina and Congolese judokas Popole Misenga and Yolande Mabika, who are based in Rio as they prepare to represent the IOC's refugee team at the Olympic Games, cutting the ribbon along with the two Games mascots. Among 132 points of sale around Rio de Janeiro, the Copacabana Megastore will be the second largest outlet for official products – the largest will be in Barra Olympic Park.
