3 December, World Day of people with disabilities

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was established in 1992 by the decision of the UN General Assembly and celebrated each year on 3 December. The choice of date is linked to the adoption by the international organization -on December 3 at 1982- of the action program for the disabled persons, which led to the signing of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities on March 30, 2007.

The Day gives the opportunity to governments, organizations and communities to focus on the rights of the people with disabilities. According to the UN, around one billion people worldwide suffer from some form of disability and 80% of them live in developing countries.
