International success for Greek Paralympic wheelchair tennis

The fourth place in the World Team Cup Qualification held in Villamura, Portugal, was won by our national wheelchair tennis team.

The Greek racquets in the semi-finals, i.e. where qualification to the final phase was judged (Sardinia 27/9-3/10) were defeated 2-1 by Poland, while they took 4th place in GROUP I, after the 2-0 defeat by Sri Lanka.

Stefanos Diamantis and Giorgos Lazaridis, led by federal coach George Kondo, scored three victories in the quarter-finals in equal numbers against the Tanzanian team. In the first match Lazaridis defeated Hamisi 6/1 6/0, in the second Diamantis prevailed 6/2 6/1 of Tempe, while in the double Diamantis/Lazaridis defeated 6/0 6/0 Hamisi/Tempe.

In the foursome match, the Greek rackets were defeated 2-1 by Poland and were left out of the final and out of the final phase. In the first match against the Poles, Lazaridis was defeated 7/5 6/4 by Pyotr Jarosevski, to tie Diamantis after the 6/4 7/6 victory over Camille Fabianik. In the double, Diamantis/Lazaridis was defeated 6/4 6/3 by Jarozevski/Fabian.

The final ranking came after the 2-0 defeat by Sri Lanka. Giorgos Lazaridis in the first match was defeated 7/5, 6/1 by Ranaveera, while the defeat with 6/3 7/5 was also experienced by Stefanos Diamantis from Darmasena
