Prof. Dionyssis Gangas presented his book entitled “Olympic Movement and International Politics”

The IOA’s Development Projects Consultant, Prof. Dionyssis Gangas, presented his book entitled “Olympic Movement and International Politics” in the Lecture Hall of the Hellenic Olympic Committee. The topic that the book handles is the conflictual co-existence of the Olympic Movement and the Olympic Games with the International but also national Politics, a timeless relationship, multiply disrupted, with politics trying to interfere with the Olympic Games in an effort to take advantage of sports in order to gain political benefits.

In a room full of people involved in sports and culture, Prof. Gangas, who has at least 40 years of experience in the Olympic Movement, referred to the elements of this conflict thanking all those who contributed to the completion of his book. Finally, he expressed his opinion that the Olympic Games need to be more people-oriented and “clean” to the benefit of the next generations. The IOA President, Mr Isidoros Kouvelos, who has a long-term friendship and cooperation with Prof. Gangas in the Olympic Movement gave a short address. Many personalities with an international prestige such as the member of the Greek Parliament for Chania and head of the Hellenic Delegation at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Dora Bakoyiannis, the Emeritus Professor of International Institutions, Stelios Perrakis, Professor in modern and contemporary History, Christina Koulouri and the Director of the International Olympic Truce Centre, Konstantinos Filis. The discussion was coordinated by the journalist Kleio Nikolaou.
